The flipping ship

The FLIP
research vessel (Floating Instrument Platform) is the only ship in the world having the ability to flip from a horizontal position to a vertical position while at sea.

The FLIP ship is designed to study wave height, acoustic signals, water temperature and density, and for the collection of meteorological data.

FLIP is 108 meters long and weighs 700 long tons. According to
Alan Bellows
, "when in horizontal traveling mode, the long, hollow ballast area trails behind. When it reaches the desired location, the "tail" is flooded until the nose sticks straight up into the air, taking about twenty-eight minutes to reach vertical position".
Even in stormy conditions, it is as stable as a fencepost, because most of its length lies in the untroubled waters beneath the waves.

During the flip, the crew stand on the outside decks. Scientists and crewmembers literally walk up the walls to stay upright. Suddenly, the aft side of the barge becomes its floor. That makes for some ingenious engineering feats in equipping its bridge, galley, crew quarters and scientific laboratory. Even its head, or bathroom, had to be constructed to operate in a vertical and horizontal position.

In 1995, FLIP received a $2,000,000 modernization. The structural build is currently excellent and instrumentation will allow FLIP to be an oceanographic powerhouse in the future.

The Worlds Longest Bike

It has been to our attention that the longest bike in the world, officialy registered by Guiness record book is from Russia. It’s creator Oleg “Leshij” Rogov was from Tver city, a small town near Moscow city. He was a big biker fan since his childhood. One day he has got an idea to build the longest bike in the world, according to his own story “probably after he got too much  beer inside”.

So after two years of planning and delaying he did it. He built the bike that was 31 feet 4 inches long (9 metres 57 cm). After the thing was ready he sent his claim to the Guiness book and got registered as longest bike in the world.

The saddest part of the story is that he got into accident and died this summer, still we have the photos of his creation, it would be some kind of tribute to him.

Wedding Photo Shoot - A Day To Remember

Captured moments from the major quake in Si Chuan

It was a day to remember...
Their Wedding shoot.
At the famous 100-year-old Church of the Annunciation in Pengzhou, China.Morning May 12, photographer Wang went about preparing to shoot wedding pictures for a young couple, this was the test shot before the shoot..

Pengzhou is located in the Sichuan province. It was morning May 12, 2008.And then it happened.... the earth quake! 7.8 on the Richter scale.

Bricks fall from the building during the earthquake, which turned Wang from a
wedding photographer into a journalist.

The stunned couple huddles together at the church ground during initial tremors.
'I shouted to people, 'Run! Run!'' said photographer Wang Qiang.
'The ground shook and we couldn't see anything in the dust.'
As the dust began to clear, the true extent of damage was only beginning to appear...

A cracked facade was all that remained of the 100-year-old Church of the
Annunciation after the quake. Most of the church 'collapsed in 10 seconds,' said Wang,
who lives in Chengdu, capital of hard-hit Sichuan province.

Soon after the quake, the people at the seminary set out for a nearby village,
but residents warned them the route was blocked. 'We could still hear landslides,'
Wang wrote in an online account of the disaster. So they stayed overnight in a
tent and made it to the village the next day, thanks to help from a truck driver.

A scarf from a wedding dress lies forgotten in front of the seminary.
Wang said he thought the catastrophe would strengthen the bonds of
the couples who were there that day: 'Having gone through a life-and-death test,
they surely will clasp hands and grow old together.'
No one was harmed at the above location.
They'll sure have a Wild story to tell there Children!
